The NKF is a small national charity run by kidney patients, for kidney patients. The charity supports the two million people in the UK suffering from under performing kidneys to kidney failure, it also supports transplant patients and carers. The NKF has a support network of a Helpline based at head quarters that is free to call from a UK landline. The helpline boasts over 150 unique patient information leaflets, which are produced and updated by professional NHS Nephrologists, who kindly do this free of charge and act as medical advisors to the NKF. The Helpline staff then produce, print and post out free of charge relevant leaflets to patients when they call the Helpline. NKF also has an advocacy service run by a team of eight officers spread throughout the UK, the advocacy team have educational stands at many conferences and events throughout the country where they display the patient information leaflets and give advice and support to patients and carers. NKF has a publication called Kidney Life. This unique magazine is produced three times per year and each issue is designed, printed and mailed out free of charge to 25 thousand people. The magazine used to be produced four times per year, but had to be cut this year to three due to lack of funds, every issue costs the NKF £26,000.00 to produce. NKF has been supporting kidney patients for over 30 years, and is finding it a constant struggle to continue to keep providing its vital support services. The NKF also hosts a three day patient focused conference yearly, the cost to attend is kept to a minimum for patients, and is therefore subsidised by the NKF. All of this comes at an annual cost of approximately £600 thousand pounds. The NKF relies totally upon donations and subscriptions to support its aims in achieving the best possible support for kidney patients and their families. NKF would be extremely grateful if you would be so kind as to consider supporting the NKF so we can continue our vital work.
