UNACC is a day centre providing healthy living activities, a nutritious lunch and information to isolated older people living in South Norwood and surrounding areas. We are based in South Norwood, right next door to the beautiful South Norwood Lake and we were established in 1972. We have developed a thriving and modern social day centre for older people living in the Croydon area. UNACC offers a wide ranging choice of healthy living activities for older people, including exercise classes, short mat bowls, art classes and computer training. UNACC provides supported outings to places of interest, accompanied holidays and regular activities and events within the centre that benefit members’ health such as the services of an osteopath, chiropody, hearing and health and beauty services, as well as a nutritious hot lunch. UNACC provides an information and advice ‘one stop shop’ on matters of interest or concern to our members, and signpost to relevant organisations where appropriate. Our service has helped improve the quality of life of older people living locally, reduced feelings of social exclusion, and helped to improve our members’ general health and wellbeing. We hold various activities and events for our members, and though we cater for people 50 and over, in reality many of them are quite elderly, live alone and some have mobility problems. It is an excellent place to socialise and meet people. For some of our members, it is the only opportunity they have to get out of the house and not feel isolated.
